Final draft of synopsis

A man (Jay) late 20’s pulls up outside a house in a mid 90’s car. He waits in the car for a little while and fiddles with his wedding ring. A woman (Claire) late 20’s sits at the table in the kitchen, on her laptop. Radio music is playing in the background. Jay gets out of the car and heads towards his front door. He opens the door and heads into the closet to put his coat away. The sound of energetic typing can be heard in the distance. Jay looks anxious. Claire types ‘be right back just going toilet’ gets up and heads out of the kitchen towards the toilet. Jay stands close to the closet door listening. The toilet door can be heard locking. Jay walks frantically into the kitchen and heads towards the table where the laptop is situated. On the screen a chat session is in progress with someone called Simon. The exchanges are of a tense, sometimes sexual nature. There are arrangements to meet up this evening and at the weekend. Claire will be meeting Simon at his hotel room after his conference. Suddenly the chain flushes. Jay stands still for a second than heads back out of the kitchen and stops in front of the bathroom door waiting. Claire opens the door and starts. Jay moves past her in order to wash his hands. Claire asks when he got back; he replies not long ago. Claire cringes and edges back into the kitchen. Jay stays in the bathroom drying his hands whilst asking about dinner arrangements. Claire tells him she thought he was going out. Jay informs her that his plans have changed and he is going to cook the dinner for them. Claire signs off hurriedly, just as Jay walks in. Claire quickly closes the laptop lid and heads towards the kettle and flicks the switch down. Jay walks towards the laptop and opens it. Claire turns and watches him anxiously as she watches on. She becomes agitated and inquires what he is doing and he responds by asking her where her favorite place is. Claire looks confused but eventually says Cambridge. They look at each other. Jay announces he is taking Claire away to Cambridge at the weekend. He Jay gets up and starts dicing an onion. Claire is left looking at the booking confirmation for a several seconds than turns towards jay and just stares at him, than slowly walks past and washes a few items up to help him.

moves past her in order to wash his hands.

Claire: When did you get back?

Jay: Not long ago.

Claire cringes and edges back into the kitchen. Jay stays in the

bathroom drying his hands.

Jay: So what are we having for dinner?

Claire: I don’t know I thought we could just order a take out.

Jay: I thought you was going to cook that chicken that we had in the freezer.

Claire: Yes but I totally forgot and I am not really in the mood to cook tonight.

Claire signs off hurriedly, just as Jay walks in. Claire quickly closes the laptop lid. Jay walks towards the laptop and opens it. Claire looks anxious she watches on.

Claire: what are you doing?

Jay: Don’t worry ill show you in a minute, but where is the one place you have always wanted to go?

Claire: I don’t know.

Claire: where?

Claire: Ehhhhhhh!!!

Claire: What in England?

Jay: yes.

Claire: Cambridge.

Stops and looks at each other.

Jay: Yes I am taking us away this weekend.

Claire: What bout your trip?

Jay: I cancelled it. I am going to go and cook the chicken.

Claire: Wasn’t you going out?

Jay: Yes.

Jay gets up and heads towards the freezer as Claire is left looking at the booking confirmation.

Music can be heard in the background. Jay gets out of the car and heads towards his front door. Opens the door and goes into the closet to put his coat away. Can hear his wife typing away frantically on her laptop. Jay looks anxious. Cuts to Claire typing ‘brb just going toilet’ and heads towards the toilet which is located next to the closet. As soon as the door locks jay decides to take a loser look. We can see she has been having a conversation with someone called Simon in which they have been sharing their feelings for each other and arrange to meet up. Suddenly the chain flushes. Jay walks slowly out of the kitchen and stands in front of the toilet door. As Claire opens the door she jumps back looking worried. Jay leans past to wash his hands. Claire looks scared and clenches away. And edges back into the kitchen. Jay stays in the bathroom drying his hands. Claire quickly attempts to sat goodbye to Simon, when jay walks in. Claire quickly closes the laptop lid and talks to jay.

Synopsis draft 3

Jay pulls up outside in his car, gets out and heads towards his font door. As he opens it he can hear his wife typing away frantically on her laptop. She is currently situated in the kitchen. This then cuts to a close-up of jay listening in anxiously, when suddenly Claire goes to the toilet in so leaving her laptop open. We track Jay as he decides to take a closer look as he does we cut to a close-up of a conversation his wife has been having with somebody called Simon in which they have been sharing their feelings for each other and arrange to meet up. When suddenly the chain flushes. Once again we track him back to the front door, a close-up shot is used as he opens the door than closes it again focuses on him shaking. Cuts to Claire walking down the stairs. She heads straight into the kitchen whilst Jay talks about her day. A series of parallel shots are used to show her trying to say goodbye to Simon and of jay about to walk into the kitchen. Jay continues to ask her question to see how far she is filling to lie.

Claire is a middle aged woman she has been married for 5 years to her husband Jay, but recently they have been having difficulties and Jay has been abusing his wife. She recently confided in someone she met online and she is now considering leaving her husband in order to pursue the relationship with her online friend Simon.

My film will open with Claire looking in the bathroom mirror. From the angle we can notice some bruising to her face. We next track her as she goes into her bedroom where she opens up her laptop and starts talking to her online friend Simon. She opens up to him about her husband abusing her. They talk about their dreams and where each other would love to go away. Eventually they admit they have feelings for each other and they arrange to meet up to run away. During a phone conversation that day they arrange details and finalise their plans but cut short due to Jay arriving home early.

On a typical day, jay arrives home a little early to surprise his wife Claire but only to be shocked by what he encounters as he opens the bedroom door. Which ends with someone dead and the film goes on to explore what happens leading up to the event.
